K-12 Public Schools Program (K12PSP)

The K-12 Public Schools Program (K12PSP) is a unique program targeted at school districts in need of technical assistance, operation, maintenance planning, and high efficiency natural gas storage water heater tank upgrades at no-cost to those qualifying school districts. The K12PSP program is implemented by Okapi Architecture, Inc. (Okapi) as a third-party provider on behalf of Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas). The public school districts with campuses within SoCalGas service territory and located in disadvantaged communities (DAC) and/or qualified Hard-to- Reach (HTR) may be eligible for program participation.

PROGRAM PARTICIPATION

To be eligible for program participation, the end user must be in SoCalGas’ service territory with an active account and must pay into the Public Purpose Surcharge. In addition, the end user may not have received an incentive for the same measure installation from SoCalGas in the previous five years.

The K12 Public Schools Program (K12PSP) is a no-cost high efficiency natural gas storage water heater tank upgrade program utilizing the direct install program strategy. In addition, the program offering includes a self-installed, low-flow, pre-rinse spray valve, or up to five water heating-aerator faucets.

PROGRAM PROCESS

K-12 Public Schools Program

The K12PSP process is a simple and streamlined process that is managed directly by Okapi Architecture, Inc. administrator with the customer. There are seven milestones and five documents that are included in the program process.  

1). Initial Outreach

Okapi representative will coordinate initial outreach with customer.

2). Letter of Interest

District signs Letter of Interest

3). Audit & District Review

Okapi conducts ASHRAE Level 1 Audits for identified campuses of a District. Okapi will present report with District staff and confirm measure choices.

4). District Signs Agreement

Okapi will present agreement to District for signature.

5). WH Installation and Verification Report

Okapi contractors will install water heaters, per agreement. Okapi will verify WH installation and report to SoCalGas for payment.

6). Process Review

Okapi will review process, customer will complete customer satisfaction survey, and Okapi will adjust process, if necessary.

7). Overall Program Evaluation

Quarterly, annual and two-year end program evaluation on number of WH replacements and collaboration opportunity with other agencies.

The K-12 Public Schools Program is funded by California utility customers and administered by Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas®) under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission. Okapi Architecture, Inc. provides marketing support for this program pursuant to a contract awarded to Okapi Architecture, Inc. by SoCalGas. Program funds, including any funds utilized for rebates or incentives, will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until such funds are no longer available.
